I was told by my cardiologist years ago to, "Put up with it like everyone else. We have no treatment for you because your blood pressure is too low, and if we give you heart slowing drugs they could give you a heart attack. Your heart structure is normal and vascular system is clear." He added, "You would be surprised how many other people have this problem. It's just a twitch in the left ventricle of your heart, like a twitch in the eye."

My chronic fatigue and heart arrhythmias, associated with Hashimotos hypothyroidism, were unbearable. 2007 and 2008 were also my menopause years. I was not willing to 'just put up with it'. There had to be a better way to manage these symptoms I thought. I scoured the internet and found books about magnesium citing research that spanned decades. It showed that magnesium is essential for the electrical nervous system, and that we lose it excessively under stress conditions. Magnesium is fundamental to mitochondrial metabolism, which is why so much can go wrong without it. It's like having power outages and brownouts to any body organ system. Under stress we pee out excessive amounts and if we are not putting it back to replenish stores we start to get magnesium deficiency symptoms. Well, I thought, that sounds like me. My previous job as a magazine editor involved too many deadlines and overnight vigils to get to print on time. I had truly worn myself out and felt constantly exhausted.

The biggest stumbling block for me however was getting enough magnesium supplementation to fill my tank. I couldn't digest food very well due to stress and vagus nerve dysfunction, and I certainly wasn't getting anything out of my handful of multi vitamin and mineral tablet supplements. I was already eating a fresh food balanced diet and avoiding the sugar and chemicals. Difficulty with digestion is one of the hallmarks of Hypothyroidism. It seemed like a Catch-22 dilemma: To recover the thyroid issue required more nutrition, but the thyroid problem caused digestive issues.

Then, after reading Marc Sircus's book Transdermal Magnesium, I ordered in an expensive product from Europe (as Australia didn't have any magnesium chloride for sale in any shop at that time) and discovered the benefits of magnesium chloride salt bathing, which bypasses the digestive system. It helped me recover my energy and resilience so that my coping capacity with stress improved greatly. I started to sleep better and feel stronger and stronger from the inside out, with my heart arrhythmias dissipating in increments over a six month period. I recovered without medications, but I had to get a lot of magnesium into me (which is impossible with oral supplements because the body poops most of it out before it can pass across the gut wall).

Eventually I found pure natural (food grade certified) magnesium chloride salt from the Tibetan plateau after a series of 'happenstances', but it was not available in any less than a container load amount. I checked and found that the harvested Australian magnesium chloride salt was made mainly from desalination wastes, so it was industrial grade (okay for pool salt and fertilizer etc), and not suitable for the high standard that I was aiming at. That's when I realised that we needed to bring this life saving mineral to Australia and make transdermal magnesium available for others. I kept hearing the voice of my cardiologist in my head saying that many others had this problem. So we had a sample of the food grade flakes lab-tested and subsequently imported our first container load, had it packaged and started selling magnesium flakes in late 2008.

One day, as I was applying my daily moisturiser, I looked at my hands and in a lightbulb moment wondered, what if we could put magnesium into a body cream for convenient daily use. I found it hard in my busy life to keep up with daily magnesium soaks, but my body needed magnesium top-up every day. After extensive Google searches in 2009 we found that there were no dermal magnesium products using magnesium chloride. None anywhere in the world.

Thanks to my talented hubby Peter Sanderson, who happened to be a trained food technology chemist, we achieved what many had thought was not possible. We were pioneers in 2009, and committed to developing potent magnesium products without synthetic chemical additives (ie. no dimethicone, no phenoxyethanol, no oxybenzoates, no pthalates, no GMO ingredients etc). It all had to be plant food providing nutrition to feed the body transdermally. Consulting chemists had told us that we couldn't bypass the use of chemicals in order to emulsify the cream with such a high salt content, and that at best all we would get is a liquid, but not cream viscosity. However, I had faith that we were being guided spiritually to develop solutions for many others. A high-fat buttery cream was also important for my dry skin condition (connected to low thyroid). I kept visualising a magical magnesium cream to use all over the body, and after a series of unusual events (and a few mistakes), we stumbled across the right set of processes, a non-standard protocol, to bring it all together without the petrochemicals.
