Magnesium has well over 300 jobs to do in the body. Some of these are related to skin health. Magnesium deficiency can cause problems such as acne and pimples.
You may be surprised to find out that magnesium is absolutely essential in the formation of collagen proteins, which form the structure of our skin, hair, nail, bones, and teeth, and it is essential to make elastin for flexibility.
Magnesium is also used to make detoxification enzymes like Glutathione, which helps the liver to process wastes and toxins, and to dump them into the colon for excretion. When magnesium becomes deficient it can weaken this detoxification system, upset your gut microbiome and overload the liver, thereby triggering inflammation.
Excessive stress also causes an increase in free radicals and toxic wastes. However, because magnesium is a relaxing mineral that can naturally calm down and restore equilibrium, a magnesium bath or massage is a great way to counteract the effects of stress.
The next organ of excretion the body relies on is the skin, which dumps lymphatic system wastes via perspiration glands and oil ducts. These waste products tend to attract more fatty deposits, which can become oxidized, rancid and toxic. The accumulation is what clogs pores in acne and causes inflammation with pus.
The bacteria most associated with acne is ‘acne vulgaris’, which is attracted to feed on the accumulating wastes. The best way to heal acne and prevent it, is to make sure you drink plenty of filtered and mineralised water, preferably with magnesium chloride salts, so that the body has enough hydration for proper elimination. And of course, avoid processed, deep fried and sugary (junk) foods, as they cause more build up of acid wastes.

Daily cleansing and protection of skin is also very important. Choose a gentle skin cleanser with natural ingredients like Charcoal-Pomegranate Cleanser by Elektra Magnesium. The charcoal absorbs toxins and pomegranate has been proven in studies to inhibit the growth of acne vulgaris.
After rinsing with warm water, finish off with Elektra Magnesium Cream for protection of the skin barrier with nutritious plant oils and extracts. Note that it has no pore-clogging ingredients that add extra toxic load such as parabens, petrochemical or GMO ingredients. The fats of the cream help the skin’s elasticity, as well as to hold moisture in and keep skin looking great. The most popular Magnesium Creams for those with acne are: Baby Calm Balm, Island Spice and Zest Citrus.
